How To Use The Word “Efficace” (effective, efficient) In French

How To Use The Word “Efficace” (effective, efficient) In French

In today’s lesson we’ll look at the French adjective efficace which interestingly has two translations: effective and efficient.

efficace

effective, efficient

Pronunciation: [efikas]

Efficace - French adjective meaning both effective and efficient.

Example sentences

For this first example sentence, the structure for “to try to do something” is essayer de + infinitive. For the word “way”, I could have used two synonyms: manière and façon.

J’essaie toujours de travailler d’une une manière efficace.

I always try to work in an efficient way.

For this second sentence, on m’a dit que translates literally to “one told me that” and can translate loosely to “I heard”. La plus efficace (the most effective) is an example of the French superlative. When the preposition pour precedes an infinitive it can translate to both “for” and “in order to”.

Pour perdre du poids, on m’a dit que cette méthode était la plus efficace.

I heard this is the most effective way to lose weight.
