Blanc — Meaning and Pronunciation
Blanc is a French adjective meaning “white.” Blanc is the masculine form and blanche is the feminine form; in the masculine form, the final -c is silent, so it sounds like “blahn.” As a noun, le blanc can also mean “a blank,” “a pause,” or “white space,” as in “J’ai eu un blanc“, meaning “I drew a blank.”
IPA pronunciations of blanc and blanche are /blɑ̃/ and /blɑ̃ʃ/, which sound approximately like “blahn” and “blahnsh”.
