French TV shows 0n Netflix


On of the best ways to learn French is to watch television series on Netflix. As of mid-2018 there are a ton of options for watching French TV on Netflix with a total eight shows and lots of seasons.

The most attractive feature to watching French shows on Netflix is that you can toggle between English and French subtitles. Note that on a desk-top these features are on the lower-right portion of your screen. The advantage to this is you can watch with French-only subtitles and see how much you understand. In addition, you can look up words you don’t know and create vocabulary lists.

La Mante

La Mante is a police detective series that takes place in Paris. The show came onto Nexflix in December, 2017. The premise for the show is about a convicted serial killer named Jeanne Deber. While in prison she helps police to solve current muders who are being carried out by a copycat killer. Her condition for helping police are that she demands to talk only to her estranged son, Damien, who is now a detective. There is currently one season available on Netflix.

No Second Chance

No Second Chance (Un Chance de Trop), released in 2015, is a French TV series with one season and six episodes. The show is based off of a novel by the same name by Harlan Coben. The story is about a woman named Alice Lambert who wakes up one morning, prepares her six-month old baby’s bottle and goes out for a run only to wake up two days later after getting shot. Following the murder of her husband the story is about Alice confiding in a childhood lover turned cop, Richard, and going to any lenths to find her daughter.

The Chalet

The Chalet (Le Chalet) is a French TV series of one season and six episodes released in 2018. The show is about a group of childhood friends who travel to a remote chalet in the French Alps. When a bridge from the outside world breaks behind the group, they are encountered with all sorts of dangerous and scary situations which reveal dark secrets from killings that occured twenty years ago.


Marseille, released in 2016, has two seasons with a total 16 episodes. The show takes place in the southern French city of Marseille where a twenty-year standing mayor, Robert Taro, played by the
legendary Gérard Depardieu, is challenged by his younger protégé, Lucas Barres (played by Benoît Magimel). Both seasons are now available on Netflix.

Call My Agent

Call My Agent (Dix Pour Cent) is a French TV series released in 2015. The show had two seasons with a total 12 episodes. The show is about four talent agents, Andrea, Mathias, Gabriel, and Arlette, who offer the show’s viewers a great glimpse into the celebrity world. Currently both seasons are available on Netflix.

The Break

The Break (La Trêve) is a Belgian French-language TV series. The show has one season with ten episodes. The show is about a police detective named Yoann Peeters who moves from Bruxelles to a small village with his daughter Camille. In the show Peeters deals with an apparent suicide case of football player that ends up appearing to be a murder.


Witnesses (Les Témoins) is a French TV series and has a total 14 episodes. Set in a small costal village in northern France, witnessses is a police detective show that features two detectives, Sandra Winckler and Justin, who go about solving some grisley murders. Both seasons are available on Netflix.

The Frozen Dead

The Frozen Dead (Glacé) is a French TV series. The show has just one season with six episodes and is based on a novel with the same name by Bernard Minier. The Frozen Dead takes place in a village called Saint-Martin the Frency Pyrenees and is about police investigating into murders committed by a serial killer who’s not committed to a psychiatric prison.
