The French Word of the Day is apporter, meaning “to bring”. This verb has caused a lot of confusion among my students, especially because apporter is only used when you’re bringing an object. While this lesson explains five key usages of apporter, future lessons will cover the other related verbs.

📘 Apporter meaning
Apporter is a French verb meaning “to bring” — specifically when you’re bringing an object to someone or to a place. It’s used for things you can carry, not people or animals. (For people or animals, the correct verb is amener.) Beyond bringing something, apporter can also mean “to provide,” “to contribute,” or “to bring about” a result, like advantages, help, or benefits. You’ll hear apporter both in concrete situations (bringing food, a gift, documents) and in more abstract ones (bringing support, good news, or change).
🎧 How to pronounce apporter in French
The pronunciation of apporter is /apɔʀte/, which sounds like “ah-por-tay.”
