Regular -ER verbs are the largest group of verbs in French. In the infinitive form (the “to” form, as in parler = to speak), they end in -er. All verbs that end in -er and follow the same set of endings are called regular -ER verbs.

Regular French ER verbs — conjugations for the most common verbs in French

✍️ How to Conjugate Regular -ER Verbs

Take the verb parler (to speak). The stem is everything before the -erparl-. The endings are:

  • je -e
  • tu -es
  • il/elle/on -e
  • nous -ons
  • vous -ez
  • ils/elles -ent

👉 Example with parler (to speak):

  • je parle
  • tu parles
  • il/elle/on parle
  • nous parlons
  • vous parlez
  • ils/elles parlent

👀 Another Example: Regarder (to watch)

The stem is regard-. Add the same endings as parler:

  • je regarde
  • tu regardes
  • il/elle/on regarde
  • nous regardons
  • vous regardez
  • ils/elles regardent
