Mayonnaise meaning
Mayonnaise is a feminine French noun meaning “mayonnaise.” It refers to the familiar cold, creamy sauce made mainly from egg yolks and oil. In French, it is commonly used with the partitive article de la, as in “Je voudrais de la mayonnaise” (I’d like some mayonnaise). You can also say une mayonnaise maison (homemade mayonnaise) or simply la mayo in informal spoken French.

The IPA pronunciation of mayonnaise is /ma.jɔ.nɛz/, which sounds approximately like “mah-yoh-nez.”
