Miam! (or miam-miam!) – Yum, yummy!

Today’s lesson explores the fun interjection and onomatopoeia “miam !”, which means “yum!” and “yummy!”. Miam also appears in a doubled form: “Miam-miam, ça a l’air bon (Yummy! That looks good!).

Example sentences

For this first sentence, mamie is a common way of saying grand-mère (grandma).

J’adore manger les crêpes de mamie. Miam-miam !

I love eating grandma’s crepes. Yum!

For this sentence, été is both the past participle of être (to be) and the word for summer.

Miam ! Le dîner a été vraiment exquis ce soir ! Tu cuisines vraiment bien !

Yummy! Dinner was really delicious tonight. You really cook well!

This final sentence uses the pronoun on, which has many translations including “we”.

Oh là là, on mange des gaufres pour le dessert. Miam !

Oh, we’re eating waffles for dessert. Yum!
