S’agir de — Meaning and Pronunciation
S’agir de is a French verbal expression meaning “to be about,” “to concern,” or “to be a matter of.” It is almost always used impersonally as il s’agit de. For example, “Il s’agit de l’histoire européenne” (It’s about European history) or “De quoi s’agit-il ?” (What’s it about?).
Pronunciation: /sa.ʒiʁ də/, approximately “sah-zheer duh.”
Example Sentences
Ce livre s’agit de l’histoire de France.
This book is about the history of France.
Il s’agit d‘une question de vie ou de mort.
It’s a matter of life and death.
Il s’agit de savoir quand il faut répondre et quand il faut se taire.
It is necessary to know when to reply and when to keep your mouth shut.
