Baguette Buying Guide — How to Buy a Baguette in France
French boulangeries (bakeries) usually sell several kinds of baguettes, so it helps to recognize the most common names before ordering. The texture, crust, flour, and size can vary from one type to another. To order, say:
Je voudrais une baguette tradition, s’il vous plaît.
I would like a traditional baguette, please.
baguette blanche — a light white baguette with a soft interior and thin, crisp crust
baguette tradition — a chewier baguette with a thicker, crunchier crust and no additives
baguette de campagne — a rustic country-style baguette, often made with darker flour
baguette aux graines — a baguette made with or topped with a mixture of seeds
demi-baguette — a smaller baguette, usually about half the size of a standard one
